Spiritually Cleaning Your Home Through Biblical Principles

If you want your home to honor God, it is important to understand what Scripture says about idols, images, and spiritual cleansing.
Why Can an Image or Idol in the Home Be a Problem?
People often ask this question:
Why would an image or idol brought into a home be such a serious issue?
Why would it bring a curse on my household and on me?
I am not bowing down to it or worshipping it. It is only an ornament.
This is an important question.
The Bible shows that there are different Hebrew words and meanings for the English word “curse.” Because of that, we need to look carefully at the specific Hebrew word used when Scripture speaks about having an idol or pagan image in the home.

These passages use the Hebrew word:
The Meaning of CHEREM (Strong’s 2763/64)
The Hebrew word used in these passages is CHEREM.
It means:
Physically shutting in
A net
A doom object that must be exterminated
This is very serious.
The meaning suggests that when a graven image or a dedicated pagan object is brought into your house, office, or another place, it can spiritually cover you like a net. It can cause you to become closed off.
This also carries the idea that your access to God is cut off.
In this biblical understanding, idols or pagan images may also become contact points through which demonic oppression can enter a home.
How Can I Cleanse My Home?
Before beginning spiritual cleansing, there are biblical principles that should be followed.
Principles Before the Battle
1. Confess Personal Sin First
Prayer warriors need to first confess all personal sin.
They should ask God for:
Forgiveness
Cleansing through the Blood of the Lamb
This is a necessary first step before spiritual warfare begins.
2. Pray for Protection Over Every Area of Life
A prayer of protection should be prayed over every area of the prayer warriors’ lives.
This includes:
Close family
Extended family
Personal relationships
Physical property
Belongings
Livestock
Pets
Gifting
Anointing
Ministries
Personal prophecies
Prayer warriors themselves should also already have gone through extensive deliverance, especially in the area of inherited iniquities.
3. Understand the Three-Part Process
The process is three-fold:
a. Confession of Sin
This includes confessing sin on behalf of those who committed it.
b. Dismantling Demonic Structures
This includes breaking down demonic structures and decommissioning individual demonic forces.
c. Loosing Godly Seed
This includes loosing and planting:
Godly seed
Angelic forces
The fire of the anointing of the Holy Spirit
4. Prayer Must Be Both Macro and Micro
Prayer must work on both a macro level and a micro level.
Macro Level
Properties and buildings can be subject to:
Territorial demons
Strongholds
Seasons in the spirit
Demonic plans laid out according to the heavenlies
The chambers of the moon and the sun
Micro Level
Prayer must also deal with individual people through whom demonic forces may work.
These individuals may:
Reinforce spiritual darkness
Agree with powers in the air
5. Ask the Holy Spirit to Reveal Spiritual Strongholds
To pray effectively, spiritual strongholds and powers must be identified.
After praying for protection, ask for:
Divine inspiration
Revelation from the Holy Spirit
Ask the Holy Spirit to expose all works of darkness.
Pray that:
All hidden things will be revealed in the light of God
All shadows and veils will be removed
The eyes of the Spirit will see clearly
This helps identify:
Individual powers
Specific sins that were committed
This may happen through:
Visions
Words of wisdom
Discernment
Scripture
Also ask God to loose the prophetic anointing.

Enter the Battle
Important note: This is a guideline, not a formula. Every situation is unique. Be led by the Holy Spirit.
Confession of Sin
As sins are revealed on behalf of those who committed them, bring them one by one before God and ask for His forgiveness.
Do not say:
“God forgive them”
Instead say:
“God forgive us”
Stand in the gap.
Also specifically mention sins committed through rituals by servants of darkness. This includes:
immoral ritual acts
blood sacrifices
black magic
white magic
divination
hexes
curses
spells
incantations
Ask that the Blood of Messiah Y’shua [Jesus Christ] of Nazareth would quiet the blood that is crying out for restitution.
Ask that the spirits of those who were sacrificed be commended into the Hand of the LORD.
Ask God to lift His Hand of Judgment according to the sins that were committed.
Disarming Powers
Pray that every demon that received worship through these sinful acts would be dethroned from its place of power.
Pray to:
break the power of all hexes, spells, and incantations
reverse all rituals
turn every curse into a blessing
Destroy all witnesses in the spirit.
Push over all altars, thrones, and idols that were raised in worship to Satan.
Ask God to send His Holy Fire to burn up all evidence of these things.
Pray that all forces of darkness be struck with:
deafness
dumbness
blindness
Ask God to muzzle the gatekeepers and guardians ruling over the property.
Cut the property free from:
overlords
territorial demons
their authority
their rulership
Strip every individual demon of its assignment.
Decommission them from their task and from their place of authority over that location.
Bind all identified demons and command them to draw back in the spirit.
Re-establish new boundaries by asking God to raise up walls of Holy Fire.
Ask God to disturb communication between demonic forces in the spirit realm.
Pray that confusion would enter their ranks.
Pray that these demonic powers would be isolated from one another.
Forbid them from using physical objects and power points as sources of strength, especially:
sacred stones
caves
electricity
waterways
the sewerage system
Declare that the seasons in the spirit over that place be changed.
These seasons may include:
death
destruction
famine
war
worship of mammon
Remove all demonic banners and decrees.
Declare that prophecies and plans laid out in the kingdom of darkness are:
not applicable
powerless over the property
Close all gateways in the spirit to that place.
Seal off the property.
Ask God to purify all four elements:
fire
air
water
earth
Important Note
This is a guideline and not a recipe.
Be led by the Holy Spirit.
Treat every situation as unique.
There is no power or anointing in religious rituals.
Seal the Property in Prayer
Declare that the property will remain sealed.
Declare that the seal will not be broken by agents of satan or by those who are demonized.
Take authority over all demons and bind them.
Ask God that all human spirits would also be made subject to:
His Kingdom
the Rule of Messiah Y’shua [Jesus Christ] of Nazareth
Pray that God would judge all demonic forces that try to hinder or resist the prayers of the saints.
Pray that they would be cast out from their places of stubbornness and idolatry.
Planting Godly Seeds and the Fire of the Holy Spirit
Ask God to make the presence of His Holy Spirit manifest in that place.
Ask Him to send His:
warring angels
covenant angels
linking angels
ministering angels
Ask that they would fill that place.
Pray that the banner of the LORD our God, YHVH Nissi, would be raised in the spirit over that place.
Pray that the Fire of God would surround you.
Pray that you would be hidden in the spirit.
Pray that no backlash from the prayer would be allowed to affect anyone who is praying.
Pray that every petition sent against them would be counter-petitioned in the Name of Y’shua [Jesus].
Loose God’s:

Declare the rulership of Messiah Y’shua [Jesus] over that place.
Give God thanks, glory, and honor for all He has done.

Ten Steps to Rid Your Home of Spiritual Darkness
As you go through these steps, remember that this process may take time.
Do not try to rush it.
For example, you may find that you need more time for personal repentance than you expected, or more time to go through your house and identify objects that should not be there.
Allow the Holy Spirit to set the pace for you.
Also remember that you do not have to own your home or property to follow this process.
If you rent a house or apartment, you still have the spiritual right to pray over the place where you live and dedicate it to the Lord.
1. First, Make Sure Your Relationship With God Is Secure
For many people, this step has already been taken.
But for those who have not yet done so, the very first step in ridding your home of spiritual darkness is to secure your relationship with God by accepting Y’shua [Jesus] as your King and Savior.
It is through His Name that we have authority over darkness.
We cannot make use of His Name apart from a relationship with Him.
There is also something even more important at stake, and that is your eternal home.
Living with spiritual darkness on earth is one thing.
But living in complete darkness with no hope for all eternity is something else entirely.
Only the Blood of Y’shua [Jesus] can save you from that fate.
If you have not already secured your salvation, consider turning away from sin, believing in the death and resurrection of Y’shua [Jesus], and receiving Him as King and Savior of your life.
To do this:
Consider your life and turn away from everything that is contrary to what God wants.

Acknowledge that Messiah Y’shua [Jesus Christ] died on the Cross to forgive your sin, and receive Him as your Savior to cleanse you from sin.

Ask Him to be the King of your life, openly and verbally acknowledging that Y’shua [Jesus] is not only your Savior, but also your Lord.

2. Deal With Sin in Your Life
In order to remove darkness from our homes and keep it out, we must be willing to deal with sin in our own lives.
A well-known way of saying this is that demons are like rats and sin is like garbage.
If the rats are removed but the garbage remains, the problem is still there.
But if the garbage is removed, that changes the situation completely.
In other words:
You must get rid of the garbage in order to get rid of the rats.
When we remove sin from our lives, including idols and pagan images in our homes, darkness no longer has the same legal ground it once had.
However, if we try to cleanse our homes without first making our lives right before God, the situation may become worse.
Y’shua [Jesus] taught that if an unclean spirit leaves and then returns to find the house still open and suitable, it may come back with even more darkness.
If one spirit is driven out, but the legal ground remains, the final condition may be worse than the first.
Matthew 12:43–45
Ask the Lord to reveal any sin issues in your life that need to be dealt with before continuing.
Because unforgiveness is one of the biggest open doors, ask God to show you any places of unforgiveness in your heart that need cleansing.
3. Dedicate Your House to the Lord
The next step in ridding your home of spiritual darkness is to dedicate your house to the Lord.
Pray and invite the Presence of the Lord into your home.
Ask the Lord to use your home for His Kingdom purposes.
Declare:
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
Joshua 24:15
Declare that your home will not be a resting place for darkness.
Declare instead that it will be a place of light for your family and a witness to the world.
It is often helpful to pray these things out loud.
When you speak aloud, you are confirming your intentions before God, before yourself, and over the spiritual atmosphere of your home.
4. Prepare for Spiritual Battle
What we are engaged in is spiritual warfare.
We are standing in prayer to establish our homes for the Lord and to declare them off-limits to darkness.
Before you begin, prepare in prayer:
Ask the Lord for His strategy for your home.
He may lead you to play praise music throughout your house for a time.
He may lead you to read specific Scriptures in each room.
Expect Him to answer and show you how to proceed.
Plead the Blood of Y’shua [Jesus] over yourself, your family, your animals, and your property.
Pray Psalm 91 out loud.
In Y’shua’s [Jesus’] Name, ask God to restrain any dark influence from manifesting during this process.
5. Ask the Holy Spirit to Show You What Does Not Belong
Ask the Lord to give you discernment as you look at what you own.
Go through your house, room by room.
Ask the Holy Spirit to show you any object that should not be in your home.
Be quiet before Him.
Pay attention to what He brings to your heart.
6. Remove What Should Not Be There
If something needs to go, do not treat it as something to simply pass on to someone else.
Once you know something should not remain in your home, deal with it responsibly and make sure it is removed in a safe and lawful way.
A biblical guideline often connected with this is:
Deuteronomy 7:25
Important note before removing an object:
Before you dispose of the object, renounce any participation you or your family may have had with it, whether knowingly or unknowingly, and ask the Lord to forgive you.
If the object is linked to a specific group or spiritual practice, pray and renounce any connection to it before removing it.
Because repentance removes legal ground, you can then command any darkness linked to that object to leave in the Name of Y’shua [Jesus].
Repeat this process for every object that needs to go.
7. Cleanse the Spiritual Atmosphere of Each Room
After removing unclean objects, the next step is to cleanse the spiritual atmosphere of each room.
Sometimes the issue is not an object, but what happened in that place.
Darkness may remain because of sin, trauma, fear, conflict, or previous events connected to that room.
Go through your house and repent for any known sin committed in each room.
If someone else lived there before you, ask the Holy Spirit to show you what needs prayer in each area.
Trust the impressions God gives you as you pray.
You may also notice signs that point to deeper issues, such as:
constant fighting
financial trouble
fear
nightmares
violence
unusual unrest
repeated accidents
These things may point to what happened there before.
Practice identification repentance in each room and also over the land.
Pray that the Lord would heal any trauma connected to your home.
Ask Him to restore to you and your family any blessing that was stolen.
8. Consecrate Each Room to the Lord
Once you have completed these steps, go through your house again, room by room, and consecrate each room to the Lord.
Speak specific blessings over each room.
For example:
In the living room, bless the time your family spends together there and ask the Lord to strengthen those relationships.
In each bedroom, bless the plans and purposes of the person who sleeps there.
In an office or study, bless the work done there and declare that it will be done unto the Lord.
In the bathroom, you may even thank God for cleansing and ask Him to use that room as a reminder of the cleansing He has brought into your life.
Think about why each room was designed, and bless that purpose.
Many people who consecrate their home room by room also use oil to anoint doors, windows, or furnishings.
Oil can be used as a symbol of the Blood of Y’shua [Jesus] and as a reminder of His cleansing and protecting power.
If you feel led to do so, using oil can be an appropriate symbolic act during prayer.
9. Consecrate the Land to the Lord
After the home itself has been prayed over, you can also consecrate the land to the Lord.
One way to do this is to walk the boundaries of your property and declare that the land is set apart for the Lord.
This physical act can help establish spiritual boundaries through prayer.
Another way some people do this is by setting a prayer focus at different corners of the property and offering worship and Scripture there.
These actions are not magic formulas.
They are symbolic or prophetic acts that declare to the Lord, to yourself, and over the atmosphere that this property belongs to Him.

If you choose to consecrate your property in this way, ask the Lord what Scriptures He wants you to use.
Your list may be different.
Do what is fitting for your situation and what the Holy Spirit leads you to do.
You can be creative in the ways you consecrate your property to the Lord.
10. Fill Your Home With What Brings Glory to God
The next step is to fill your home with things that bring glory to God.
A healthy, holy home is not only free from darkness.
It is also full of the Presence of God.
Here are some beautiful practices for a godly home:
Share the Covenant Meal with your family at home and include the children.
Sing at home, both alone and together. Let your home be filled with the song of the Lord.
Pray at home. Pray as a family.
Let table prayer be meaningful, even if it is short.
Make room for both planned prayer times and spontaneous prayer.
Testify at home about the good things God has done for you.
At mealtime, talk about what Y’shua [Jesus] has done for you.
Speak the Word in your house.
Read Scripture aloud in your home.
Keep your home bright and full of hope.
Refuse influences that dim the light of God’s glory in your home.
Keep Watch and Stay Prayerful
Stay alert.
We are in a spiritual war, and the enemy will always look for new ways to bring darkness into the home.
Because of this, it is wise to regularly check your home and your heart.
From time to time:
go through your house again
pray through any new sin issues
remove any new object that should not be there
consecrate your rooms again
pray over the boundaries of your property again
Many people choose to do this at least once a year.
You may want to choose a specific day each year as a reminder to do a spiritual checkup and rededicate your home to the Lord.
May God richly bless you as you seek to remove spiritual darkness from your home and live in the glory of His Presence.

Father God,
I come before You in the mighty Name of Y’shua, Jesus Christ of Nazareth. I declare today according to Joshua 24:15, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Lord, I surrender myself, my family, my home, my property, and everything connected to me fully to You. I declare that this home belongs to You. This house will honor You. This land will serve Your Kingdom. This place will not be a resting place for darkness, fear, idolatry, torment, confusion, or evil. It will be a place of light, peace, worship, prayer, holiness, healing, safety, and the Presence of the Holy Spirit.
Father, before I enter into spiritual cleansing, I humble myself before You. Search my heart, O God. Reveal anything in me that does not please You. I confess my personal sins before You, known and unknown. Forgive me for every act of disobedience, unbelief, unforgiveness, pride, fear, compromise, rebellion, idolatry, or agreement with darkness. Wash me clean through the Blood of the Lamb. Cleanse me from all unrighteousness.
Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that only Your Blood saves, cleanses, redeems, and protects. I believe that You died on the Cross for my sins, that You rose again, and that You are King, Savior, Lord, and Messiah. I turn away from sin and I receive You as the ruler of my life, my home, and my household.
Father, I ask for Your protection over every area of my life. Cover me, my close family, my extended family, my relationships, my physical property, my belongings, my pets, my livestock, my gifts, my anointing, my ministry, my calling, my personal prophecies, my future, and every prayer warrior connected to this prayer. Let no backlash, retaliation, counterattack, or assignment of darkness prosper against us. According to Isaiah 54:17, no weapon formed against us shall prosper.
Lord, I ask You to reveal by the Holy Spirit anything in this home, on this property, or in my life that does not belong. Expose every hidden thing by Your light. Remove every shadow, veil, deception, and blindness. Give me discernment, wisdom, revelation, visions, words of wisdom, Scripture, and Holy Spirit clarity. Open the eyes of my spirit to see what needs to be removed, renounced, repented of, and cleansed.
Father, I repent for every idol, image, object, ornament, item, book, symbol, decoration, artifact, gift, inheritance, or object in this home that has been connected to pagan worship, false gods, occult practices, witchcraft, divination, rebellion, fear, death, or darkness. I renounce every object that has acted as a spiritual net, a covering, a point of bondage, or a point of demonic contact. I reject anything that would spiritually shut me in, close me off, or hinder my access to You.
In the Name of Y’shua, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I renounce every known and unknown agreement with idols, graven images, pagan objects, cursed items, occult symbols, false worship, and spiritual darkness. I declare that my home will not be defiled by anything that dishonors the Lord.
Father, forgive us for any sin committed in this home, on this land, or through any previous ownership, tenancy, family line, or spiritual agreement. I stand in the gap according to Ezekiel 22:30, and I ask, “Lord, forgive us.” Forgive us for sins committed knowingly or unknowingly. Forgive us for sins committed through rituals, immoral ritual acts, blood sacrifices, black magic, white magic, divination, hexes, curses, spells, incantations, idolatry, violence, fear, trauma, abuse, rebellion, and worship of anything other than You.
Lord Jesus, let Your Blood quiet every voice crying out for restitution. Let the Blood of Messiah Y’shua speak a better word over this home, this land, and this family. I ask You to lift any hand of judgment connected to sins committed here or through my family line. Let mercy triumph over judgment.
I ask You, Father, to commend into Your hands every soul affected by evil, sacrifice, trauma, bloodshed, violence, or darkness connected to this place. Bring justice, healing, mercy, and righteousness by Your power.
In the Name of Y’shua, I declare every demon, power, principality, territorial spirit, stronghold, overlord, gatekeeper, guardian, and demonic force connected to this property dethroned from its place of power. Every spirit that received worship through sin, ritual, idolatry, sacrifice, occult practice, or agreement with darkness is now stripped of authority in Jesus’ Name.
I break the power of every hex, spell, curse, incantation, ritual, demonic decree, dark prophecy, and satanic assignment. I declare every curse turned into a blessing by the authority of Jesus Christ. Every ritual is reversed. Every demonic witness in the spirit is destroyed by the power of God. Every altar, throne, idol, banner, and structure raised in worship to satan or darkness is pushed down and destroyed in the Name of Y’shua.
Father, send Your holy fire to burn up every evil work, every demonic residue, every spiritual marker, every unclean trace, every hidden agreement, and every evidence of darkness. Let the fire of the Holy Spirit purify this place.
I ask You, Lord, to strike every force of darkness with deafness, dumbness, and blindness. Muzzle every gatekeeper and guardian ruling over this property. Cut this property free from every overlord, territorial demon, demonic ruler, authority, and spiritual claim. Strip every individual demon of its assignment. Decommission them from their task and from their place of authority over this home, this land, this office, this property, and every room.
In the Name of Jesus, I bind every identified and unidentified demon operating here, and I command every unclean spirit to draw back and leave according to the authority of Messiah Y’shua. I submit myself to God, I resist the devil, and according to James 4:7, he must flee.
Father, raise up walls of holy fire around this home and property according to Zechariah 2:5. Let Your fire be a wall around us and Your glory within us. Disturb and destroy every communication line between demonic forces in the spirit realm. Let confusion enter their ranks. Isolate every demonic power from another. Let them no longer strengthen, reinforce, or support one another.
I forbid every dark force from using physical objects, sacred stones, caves, electricity, waterways, sewer systems, objects, rooms, furniture, doors, windows, corners, or any power points as sources of strength. I declare that every element connected to this property—fire, air, water, and earth—must be purified by the Lord.
Father, change every ungodly season in the spirit over this place. I renounce and reject seasons of death, destruction, famine, war, fear, poverty, torment, mammon, unrest, sickness, division, and heaviness. I declare a new season of life, peace, righteousness, provision, joy, worship, healing, holiness, and the glory of God.
Every demonic banner and decree over this place is removed now in Jesus’ Name. Every prophecy, plan, strategy, and assignment laid out in the kingdom of darkness is declared not applicable, powerless, illegal, and void over this home and property. I close every gateway in the spirit to this place. I seal this property by the Blood of Y’shua, Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
I declare that this seal will not be broken by agents of satan, by demonized people, by human spirits, by witchcraft, by curses, by rituals, by objects, or by any hidden agreement. Every human spirit must be subject to the Kingdom of God and to the rule of Messiah Y’shua. Every demonic force trying to hinder or resist the prayers of the saints must be judged by God and cast out from places of stubbornness, rebellion, and idolatry.
Father, now I ask You to fill this home with Your Presence. Let the Holy Spirit be manifest in every room, hallway, doorway, window, corner, closet, attic, basement, garage, yard, boundary line, and hidden place. Send Your warring angels, covenant angels, ministering angels, and angels assigned by You to fill and guard this place.
Raise the banner of the Lord our God, YHVH Nissi, over this home according to Exodus 17:15. Let the banner of Jesus Christ be lifted high in the spirit. Surround us with Your fire. Hide us in the spirit. Let no backlash from this prayer touch me, my family, my home, my pets, my ministry, my relationships, my belongings, or anyone praying in agreement. Every petition sent against us is counter-petitioned in the Name of Y’shua.
I loose the shalom of God into this home. I loose joy, peace, righteousness, holiness, worship, love, truth, purity, healing, unity, and the fire of the Holy Spirit. Jesus, You said in John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you.” Let that peace rule here.
I declare according to Philippians 2:10 that every knee must bow to the Name of Jesus—in heaven, on earth, and under the earth. Every power must bow. Every spirit must bow. Every assignment must bow. Every curse must bow. Every fear must bow. Jesus Christ alone is Lord over this house.
Father, I dedicate every room to You.
I dedicate the living room to love, fellowship, joy, unity, and godly conversation.
I dedicate every bedroom to peace, rest, purity, safety, dreams from God, and the fulfillment of Your plans and purposes.
I dedicate every bathroom as a reminder of cleansing, renewal, and the washing power of the Blood of Jesus.
I dedicate the kitchen and dining areas to provision, gratitude, covenant meals, fellowship, and meaningful prayer.
I dedicate every office, workspace, and study area to work done unto the Lord, creativity, wisdom, diligence, excellence, and Kingdom purpose.
I dedicate every doorway and window as guarded entry points under the authority of Jesus Christ.
I dedicate the land, the boundaries, the four corners, and every physical space connected to this home to the Lord.
Father, heal any trauma connected to this home, this land, these rooms, or the people who have lived here. Restore every blessing that was stolen. Replace fear with faith. Replace unrest with peace. Replace conflict with unity. Replace nightmares with holy rest. Replace financial trouble with godly stewardship and provision. Replace violence with safety. Replace heaviness with praise. Replace darkness with light.
Lord, teach me to keep watch over my home and my heart. Help me regularly examine what enters this house through objects, media, conversations, relationships, habits, and spiritual influences. Give me the courage to remove anything that does not glorify You. Help me refuse every influence that dims the light of Your glory.
