Why Kabbalah Is NOT From God: A Simple Guide for Christian Families

October 10, 20258 min read

In today’s world, it’s easy to be drawn into spiritual teachings that look good on the surface—but don’t align with God’s Word. One of those teachings is called Kabbalah. While it’s often presented as “ancient wisdom” or “secret knowledge,” the truth is, Kabbalah is not from God, and it’s important that Christian families understand why.

Let’s walk through what Kabbalah really is, where it comes from, and why it’s spiritually dangerous.

What Is Kabbalah?

Kabbalah (also spelled Kabalah, Cabala, or Qabala) is part of Jewish mysticism. It’s often described as a way to understand the secrets of the universe or the essence of God. Kabbalists believe that by studying mystical texts and having spiritual experiences, they can become more connected to God.

One of the main books in Kabbalah is called the Zohar. It’s a mystical commentary on the Torah, written in ancient languages like Hebrew and Aramaic. Kabbalah focuses on deep spiritual experiences, interpreting hidden meanings in Scripture, and practicing rituals to achieve closeness with what they believe is the divine.

But underneath the surface, it blends astrology, numerology, and magical symbolism—concepts that directly contradict Biblical faith.

The Tarot and Kabbalah Connection

A major branch of Kabbalistic practice links mystical “paths” on the Tree of Life with Tarot cards. Each card is seen as a spiritual stage between heavenly “spheres” (called sephirot). These teachings are filled with occult images, gods, and hidden meanings.

Below are examples of what Kabbalah teaches—and why it stands against the truth of Scripture.

1. The Magician

Kabbalah describes the Magician as a figure who draws power “from above,” using tools representing the four elements—water, fire, air, and earth—to shape reality through will and imagination. He symbolizes self‑mastery, creativity, and mental power, with the infinity sign above his head representing control over the material world.

But Biblically, this is dangerous deception. Scripture forbids using symbols or objects to manipulate power (Deuteronomy 18:10‑12). The Magician’s “serpent belt” is said to represent eternity and an unending covenant—but Kabbalistic texts reinterpret this as a covenant outside of God, even calling it a “never‑ending covenant with Satan.”

What Kabbalah calls enlightenment, the Bible calls rebellion. True power comes only through the Holy Spirit, not secret rituals or occult symbols.

2. The High Priestess

Kabbalah portrays the High Priestess as a mystical bridge between heaven and earth, representing hidden knowledge, dreams, and psychic power. She’s linked with pagan goddesses—Isis, Diana, Hera, and even Hecate—and with the moon, magic, and the subconscious.

This image blends Biblical names (like “Mary”) with pagan ones to confuse seekers. The High Priestess “guards the temple of mysteries” and “conceives the mystical child” through union with the “horned one.” These are clear occult descriptions.

God’s Word warns:

“There shall not be found among you… one who practices divination or interprets omens or sorcery.” — Deuteronomy 18:10

The Holy Spirit gives wisdom, not secret feminine energy or lunar magic. This counterfeit version of holiness replaces God’s Spirit with false light.

3. The Empress

In Kabbalah, the Empress represents Venus, the goddess of love and fertility. She symbolizes nature, abundance, and “the Great Mother.” The texts even compare her to Gaia and Ceres, pagan deities tied to earth worship.

She is said to sit in “the earthly Eden,” holding symbols of fertility and the crescent moon. But Scripture calls us to worship the Creator, not creation (Romans 1:25).

By turning nature and motherhood into a goddess figure, Kabbalah replaces God’s design for family and fruitfulness with idol worship.

4. The Emperor

The Emperor is described as Aries, the ram, a symbol of power, order, and authority. His throne bears four horns, referencing astrology’s four elements and seasons. He holds an ankh—an Egyptian sign of life and pagan godhood—and declares, “I Am,” words belonging to God alone (Exodus 3:14).

This figure claims dominion through secret power and enlightenment rather than submission to the one true King, Jesus Christ.

Why Kabbalah Is Not Biblical

While Kabbalah may use words like “God” and “spirituality,” its core beliefs directly oppose Scripture.

  1. It teaches that God is in everything (pantheism).
Kabbalah claims that all things are divine and that humans carry hidden pieces of God within. But the Bible teaches that God is holy and separate from His creation (Isaiah 46:9).

  2. It promotes secret knowledge.
Only the “initiated” can understand its mysteries. Yet the Lord reveals truth plainly through His Word (Psalm 119:105).

  3. It invites unbiblical spiritual experiences.
Kabbalah seeks visions, trances, and altered consciousness, while Scripture commands believers to be sober‑minded (1 Peter 5:8).

How Kabbalah Contradicts the Gospel

The Gospel is clear: salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ alone, not by mystical works or enlightenment.

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” — John 14:6

Kabbalah teaches self‑elevation and hidden wisdom, but Jesus calls us to humility and obedience.

What Parents Should Know

Families today face countless messages about “energy,” “manifestation,” and “universal truth.” Many of these ideas trace back to Kabbalah and other occult philosophies.

To guard your home:

  • Stay grounded in the Bible.

  • Be alert to books, shows, or influencers that mix Christianity with mysticism.

  • Remind your children that Jesus is enough; no secret rituals bring them closer to God.

  • Pray for discernment together as a family.

Final Thoughts

Kabbalah may sound wise, but it is man’s attempt to reach heaven without the cross. It merges paganism, astrology, and self‑worship into a spiritual system that denies Christ’s finished work.

“The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits.” — 1 Timothy 4:1

Believers don’t need hidden codes or symbols to know God. His truth is open to all who believe in His Son.

A Prayer to Expose and Destroy Deception

Heavenly Father,
I come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the name above every name!
Your Word declares,

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds.” — 2 Corinthians 10:4

Right now, I pull down every stronghold of false light, secret knowledge, and occult wisdom that tries to exalt itself against the knowledge of Christ!
Every spirit of deception—you are exposed by the fire of the Holy Spirit!
Every hidden lie disguised as truth—be destroyed in the name of Jesus!

Lord, open my eyes to see truth and my ears to hear Your voice.

“You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” — John 8:32

I refuse to be led by man’s philosophies or mystical systems.
I choose to be led by Your Spirit alone.
Every counterfeit spirit posing as wisdom or enlightenment,
I command you to leave my life, my family, and my home now in the name of Jesus!

Father, release Your holy fire over my household.
Cleanse every doorway of the mind and heart from contamination of false teaching.
Let Your Word—the sword of the Spirit—cut through every web of deception and confusion.

“The word of God is living and active, sharper than any two‑edged sword.” — Hebrews 4:12

I declare that my home is a house of truth,
a dwelling place for the Holy Spirit,
and no occult power, witchcraft, or false religion shall enter in.

Lord Jesus, You are the only way, the only truth, and the only life.

“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” — John 14:6

I lift Your name high over every false name and symbol.
Every demonic covenant, every false altar, every secret knowledge that tries to take Your place—
I cancel it by the blood of Jesus!

Holy Spirit, ignite Your fire in me again.
Let Your presence burn away compromise, confusion, and fear.
Let every word I speak and every thought I think bring glory to Jesus Christ.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you.” — Acts 1:8

I decree and declare:

  • I walk in the light of God’s Word.

  • I am covered by the blood of Jesus.

  • I am filled with the fire of the Holy Spirit.

  • No weapon formed against me shall prosper! (Isaiah 54:17)

Father, I thank You that You are raising a generation that loves truth.
Let my children and my children’s children walk in discernment and boldness.
Give us the courage to stand for Jesus in a world of compromise.
Let Your glory be revealed through us as we speak truth in love.

In the mighty, matchless, victorious name of Jesus Christ,
Amen!
